La visita de la vella dama

Vicky Peña, Xavier Capdet and caustic humour lead this spiral of revenge
2017–2020

Sinopsis

Clara Zachanassian returns to her hometown, Güllen, to close a wound left open 45 years ago. In that time, she has grown wealthy, while the town has fallen into misery. The people of Güllen await her with hope, especially Alfred Ill, her youthful love. Everyone hopes Clareta will rescue them from ruin. But no one gives something for nothing...

“I describe men, not puppets,” says Dürrenmatt. And in this version of The Visit, we turn nearly all the characters into puppets. It may seem irreverent toward the author, but deep down, irreverence is just another form of reverence.
Reverence for a searing work in which no one escapes responsibility. Reverence for a text where revenge and money manipulate the plot into an inescapable spiral. Neither the manipulated nor the manipulator can escape.
Only two characters are not puppets: Clara Zachanassian —the old lady— and Alfred Ill —her former lover— portrayed by Vicky Peña and Xavier Capdet. They are flesh and blood, yes, but the threads of the plot will entangle them more than anyone.
We destroy Dürrenmatt, then, because he speaks to us of a destroyed world, without principles, without humanity, only appearances.
